Marco Polo is a classic swimming pool game. It's really quite simple, but it's tons of fun.
Everybody gets into the pool, and somebody starts out as the "Marco". Everybody else in the pool is trying to stay away from the "Marco".
The "Marco" must have his eyes closed at all times. He/she calls out "Marco" and the other players must yell back "polo".
The "Marco" must tag another player to make the other player "Marco" and finally open his eyes. The "Marco" keeps switching every time somebody gets tagged. The only way he knows where the other players are is by their voices calling "polo".
It gets tricky when players try to lure the "Marco" to their opponents. This game does not require a certain amount of players.
The CannonBall Contest requires nothing but you, your friends and a swimming pool.
Divide everybody into two groups. One group will serve as the judges. They will vote on who can make the biggest splash and give a score from 1-10.
The other group will be the CannonBall'ers. These guys will do the best cannonball they possibly can to get the best score. The person with the highest total score from the judges in the winner.
After the voting is over, the judges switch with the CannonBall'ers and play the game over again. But just remember, safety first!
Start out in the shallow end of the swimming pool. You are going to need a partner, and so will your opponent. One person from your team will go underwater and mount the other on his/her shoulders, and the opponents' team will do the same.
The teammates responsible for carrying the other player will hold on strongly to their teammate's legs to keep him/her up on their shoulders. Stay away from dangerous or sharp spots in the swimming pool.
The players that are mounted up on their teammate's shoulders will face off against each other. The object is to try to knock the opposing mounted player off of their teammate's shoulers and into the water. The person to fall into the water first loses.
Teammates can rotate positions, or the winning players can take on a new team of 2.
This is a game where 4 players face off against 4 other players. 8 players total will be playing. This game is for in-ground rectangular pools. Each team will have a skipper, a midfielder and two defenders. Play with a kid's play ball, or volleyball-sized ball. Find one here.
Toss a coin to see who skipsf irst. A team's skipper must jump off the diving board. While in the air, he/she must skip the ball (like a rock) across the pool and out onto the other side of the pool. If the ball doesn't hit the water, the skip doesn't count.
As the skipper skips the ball, the opposing team tries to block the ball from getting to the other side. As the skipper takes his shot, the teams battle for possession of the ball. Mid-fielders swim around the middle of the pool. Defenders can pass the ball to mid-fielders to try to "touch" the ball on the deep-end of the pool. A ball that gets past the defenders scores the skipper's team a point. Most points wins.
This is an age-old swimming pool favorite for swimmers. There's not a limit to the number of players (too many players is not safe).
A few players are selected to be sharks, and some are minnows. The sharks will hover around the center of the pool, and the minnows will line up along the edge of the pool. This game must be played in a safe area.
After being signaled, the minnows have to swim from their side of the pool to the other side (the safe zone). The sharks try to tag the minnows as they cross. If any minnow is tagged by a shark, that minnow becomes a shark and has to hover in the pool to try to tag minnows when they cross.
When only a few minnows remain, the sharks switch with the minnows and you play again.
Swimming Pool Frisbee can be played with a bunch of players or a small group. This game requires a frisbee and two laundry baskets (for goals).
Divide the players into two teams. One side attacks, the other defends. Toss a coin to determine which team goes first. The attacking team member starts outside of the pool. Once the thrower passes the frisbee to a teammate in the pool, he gets into the pool. The player with the frisbee must hold it like a waiter (flat on the top of his hand).
The person who has the frisbee cannot swim with the frisbee, they can only walk in the pool. If they want to pass to a teammate, they can throw the frisbee. The defending team tries to stop the frisbee from getting into the goal (the laundry basket). If the defending team intercepts, they become the attacking team. Getting the frisbee in the basket is a goal. Most goals wins.
This can be played with 2 people or 2 teams. All players should start at the end of the swimming pool. Only one player from each team can face off at a time. Each of the players, with a beach ball in front of them, starts to push the ball with their nose to the opposite end of the pool.
Once at the other side, you must push the beach ball back across the pool with your nose. The winner is whoever reaches one side and back first. If you're playing with teams, your teammate must run the relay once you finish, and the team to finish the race first wins.
Check out our awesome beach balls. These are perfect to play with, and they're on sale.
Our brand new pool tubes are perfect for playing this game.
Two teams are required to play this game correctly. One team picks someone they think can stay on the tube the longest. That person gets on top of their tube in the swimming pool.
The attacking team tries to knock the person off of the tube. They cannot touch the person, but only the pool tube. If the person falls off, the attacking team chooses somebody to go up on the tube.
The team that wins is whichever team that has the person who stayed on longest. Be safe!
This game requires a plastic 2-liter bottle (empty) and a pool (obviously!). Peel off any wrappers/stickers on the bottle. Fill the bottle to the top with water and put the cap on tightly. Divide your players into two teams and send each team to a different end of the pool. A chair goes at both ends of the pool (this serves as the goal).
Players must face away from the pool and close their eyes. Somebody that's not playing (game conductor) throws the bottle into the pool. When it splashes, the players open their eyes and chase after the bottle. The object for each team is to get the bottle to the opposing team's chair. This is 1 point. First team with 3 points wins.
The bottle is quite hard to see...good luck!
This swimming pool game can be played with any number of players. You can play "London Bridge" at the deep-end or the shallow end.
Two of the players will grab onto each others' hands and hold them up high to form a "bridge". The others will have to walk under the bridge, but each time the bridge will lower.
Eventually, the bridge gets so low that players are required to swim under it. The person who swims under the lowest bridge is considered the winner.
If the players are quite young (or not very tall) this game should be played in the shallow end. Remember to be safe while submerging yourself under water!
The Balloon Relay doesn't limit the number of teams that can play. You don't have to have a pool for this game, but you can play in the pool if you'd like.
Fill up a bunch of water balloons. Get some chairs (as many chairs as the number of teams you have) and set them somewhere about 15 feet away (the finish line). Players from each time have to run to the finish line, pop the water balloon by sitting on the chair, and run back.
Once they return, their teammate will be the next to run and pop the balloon. The team who pops all the balloons and finishes the race wins. Someone who's not playing will have to stand next to the chair to refill the chair with balloons.
The Water Bombs can be used to play tons of games (not just one!). Please check out our swimming pool water bombs to start.
These balls can be used to play catch, to play water sports, pool games, or fun things like juggling contests in then pool.
These balls are very light, but when you dip them into the water, you can throw them across the pool to somebody else you're playing with. These are very popular at swimming pool parties because kids loving tossing the water bombs all over the pool.
